MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--CouponsforChange.org, the philanthropic arm of Coupons.com, today announced it has been certified by the Guinness Book of Records® for creating the World’s Largest Lunchbox. The giant lunchbox is a replica ten times the size of those carried every day by children across the U.S. The record-setting certification comes at a particularly relevant time as CouponsforChange.org honors September’s Hunger Action Month and strives to help take a bite out of hunger to help the 49 million people facing hunger in the U.S.

“Receiving confirmation that we set the world record for the largest lunchbox is a thrill, and it also comes at an important time as CouponsforChange.org is partnering with Feeding America to help give Hunger Action Month a louder voice,” said Michele Boal, Chief Philanthropy Officer of CouponsforChange.org & Co-Founder of Coupons.com Incorporated. “Our goal in building the lunchbox was to raise awareness of childhood hunger that exists—many times unnoticed—in our community. If just 10 percent of the 3.5 billion coupons used each year came from CouponsforChange.org, we could provide over 100 million meals to kids struggling with domestic hunger every year.”

World’s Largest Lunchbox

Unveiled on August 15th at an event that was supported by the San Francisco 49ers (including executives, popular alumni players, cheerleaders and team mascot) the lunchbox measures 90 inches by 80 inches by 40 inches. Iconic to back-to-school, the lunchbox was filled with more than 400 backpacks containing food for children in need as the new school year began for kids across the country. The journey for this enormous lunchbox is not over. In fact, CouponsforChange.org will be working with the 200 food banks that fall under the Feeding America Network to engage people around the country to help give back and at the same time create more awareness around the fact that childhood hunger has no boundaries.

The unveiling of the giant lunchbox was designed to raise the awareness of domestic childhood hunger in the U.S. which affects over 16 million children every year. The new philanthropic website empowers people to give back even though they may not have the time or resources to do so. Simply by using coupons which help families stretch their own dollars for everyday grocery and household items, the website empowers consumers to help fill lunchboxes and grocery bags for those who are struggling. As consumers print and use coupons from CouponsforChange.org, a contribution is made to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. For every three coupons used, a meal is provided to children and their families who are at risk for hunger. By using CouponsforChange.org, users can be a part of social change, helping fight childhood hunger and giving back to those who are struggling without taking money from their own pockets or changing a behavior.

September is Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month is the month-long September campaign to help raise awareness of the 49 million people in the U.S. who face hunger. Feeding America estimates that for one in six Americans, hunger is a reality, meaning millions of Americans are forced to go without food for several meals or even days. Through the Coupons for Change website, consumers can provide a meal through Feeding America for every three coupons they use.
